Patient care
Standards addressing patient evaluation, care planning, procedural safety, monitoring, recovery and discharge, as applicable to the office’s scope of care.
Standards & approach
Our proposed program considers not only the care delivered, but the systems, people and environment that support it.
The foundation
Standards are being developed in alignment with Ala. Admin. Code Chapter 540-X-10 for Alabama physician offices performing Level II and Level III office-based surgery.
Standards addressing patient evaluation, care planning, procedural safety, monitoring, recovery and discharge, as applicable to the office’s scope of care.
Review of documentation practices that support continuity of care, complete clinical records and appropriate protection of patient information.
Evaluation of the availability, readiness and maintenance of equipment appropriate to the procedures and levels of care provided.
Review of qualifications, defined responsibilities, training and preparedness of the people delivering and supporting care.
Consideration of the clinical environment, infection prevention, emergency readiness and the suitability of facilities for the services provided.
Available now
Alongside the accreditation program now before the Board, we offer consultation to help offices understand office-based surgery expectations and prepare with confidence.
A practical look at policies, personnel, equipment, records and facilities against the safety framework in Ala. Admin. Code Chapter 540-X-10.
Guidance for offices preparing for an accreditation survey or tightening documentation, emergency planning and quality processes.
Consultation on questions of patient selection, informed consent, monitoring, recovery, transfer arrangements and related office-based surgery practice issues.
Consultation is an advisory service. It is not accreditation, certification or Board approval, and it does not guarantee any future accreditation decision.
Beyond the standards
Our intended process emphasizes consistent evaluation, clear findings and fair, timely decisions for accreditation and renewal.
A proposed process for receiving and evaluating complaints fairly and in a timely manner, with appropriate documentation and follow-through.
An emphasis on reviewing findings, identifying improvement opportunities and supporting accountability in office-based surgical care.
This overview is not the complete standards manual or legal advice. Offices remain responsible for applicable laws, rules and professional obligations. Confirm current requirements and approved-accreditor status with the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners.
